"Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'" Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. [The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9-20.]
Jesus chooses "losers"
Mark 1:14-20 NIV
After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Jesus chooses "losers"
Rabbis' followers were called talmid. A Jewish boy studied his entire life in the hope that, as he neared adulthood he could become a talmid. They would memorize the entire Torah – the first five books of our Bible. They would undergo intense examination by the rabbi. And only the best of the best were chosen. Only the folks with the 4.0 average and the 36 on the ACT got to apprentice with a rabbi. All the rest went to work in the family business. They became stonemasons and shepherds and tanners and . . . fishermen. Jesus finds a group of guys in a dead-end job that must have thought, “This is the rest of my life. This is the end for me. I’ll be standing in this boat until the day I die.”

That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"
