Love Like Jesus - Part 2 - Love's Direction
Last Sunday at WFA we began our February series of messages on "Love Like Jesus" by sharing "Love's Definition," based on 1 John 4:7-5:3. We understand that God is love, and that we are called to demonstrate the love of God that He has placed in us in a tangible way, for "if God loved us, we ought to love one another." Further, we are commanded to love, and know when we love God, we will keep his commandments. But, just how is love expressed? I believe God's Word clearly shows us that love is not simply expressed as an emotion, but even more so as a direction! In Ephesians 3:18, we read about "how wide, how long, how high, and how deep" God's love is. There is definitely a direction to God's love. And, there is also a direction that we must all recognize about love itself, if we are indeed going to learn to "Love Like Jesus." Love Reaching Down is Grace
Sometimes things need to go down before they can go up. Love must come down before it can go up.
Beholding
1 John 3:1 NIV
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Manifested
1 John 4:9-10 NIV
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Love Reaching Up is Adoration
Only through God coming down to us in love are we able to now reach up to God in love.
Love Reaching Across is Affection
Love reaching down, and love reaching up, says we MUST now reach across to one another in love.
