Refreshing God's Saints
Philemon 1:7 NASB
For I have come to have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
A) Do you make people smile or cringe when they see you coming? B) Joseph got the nickname Barnabas- "Son of encouragement" -Acts 4:36 C) Everybody needs encouragement at times -Acts 28:15
Today let's look at how we can refresh others and also be refreshed ourselves
GOD is the Source of All Refreshment
1 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NASB
hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost. But we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short while-in person, not in spirit-were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.
All King David's supporters TURNED AGAINST HIM but God refreshed Him
1 Samuel 30:6 NASB
Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
The HOLY SPIRIT brings refreshment
Acts 9:31 NASB
So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.
Remembering our ETERNAL HOPE brings refreshment
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 NASB
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Refreshing Comes Through Fellow CHRISTIANS
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NASB
Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
Our WORSHIP times are designed for encouragement
Hebrews 10:25 NASB
not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
It should be a part of our DAILY routine
Acts 2:46-47 NASB
Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Seek out those who are going through HURTS you have experienced
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NASB
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
When I'm HURTING I should seek to encourage someone else
Acts 16:40 NASB
They went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia, and when they saw the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.
I can even help others to keep them out of the TRAP of sin
Hebrews 3:12-13 NASB
Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
I need to guard my MOUTH so that my words encourage only
Ephesians 4:29 NASB
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Refreshing Can Begin in Your Life When You REPENT
Acts 3:19 NASB
Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;
