The Story: Chapter 16
We sometimes want to learn what the "secret code" of Christianity or the Bible is. Is there a "secret code" where I can make God do what I want Him to do? We never find a secret formula in scripture. However, there are a few things we can learn from King Hezekiah that invited His hand of blessing in his life and nation.
2 Chronicles 36:15-16
2 Chronicles 36:15-16 NKJV
And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.
Isaiah 2:6-12 NKJV
For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They are soothsayers like the Philistines, And they are pleased with the children of foreigners. Their land is also full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is also full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots. Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, That which their own fingers have made. People bow down, And each man humbles himself; Therefore do not forgive them. Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, From the terror of the Lord And the glory of His majesty. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord of hosts Shall come upon everything proud and lofty, Upon everything lifted up— And it shall be brought low—
2 Chronicles 32:7-8
2 Chronicles 32:7-8 NKJV
“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him. With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
2 Chronicles 32:20-21
2 Chronicles 32:20-21 NKJV
Now because of this King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.
2 Chronicles 32:26
2 Chronicles 32:26 NKJV
Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
Commitment to PURITY
2 Chronicles 29:3-6
2 Chronicles 29:3-6 NKJV
In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them. Then he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them in the East Square, and said to them: “Hear me, Levites! Now sanctify yourselves, sanctify the house of the Lord God of your fathers, and carry out the rubbish from the holy place. For our fathers have trespassed and done evil in the eyes of the Lord our God; they have forsaken Him, have turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and turned their backs on Him.
2 Chronicles 29:15-16
2 Chronicles 29:15-16 NKJV
And they gathered their brethren, sanctified themselves, and went according to the commandment of the king, at the words of the Lord, to cleanse the house of the Lord. Then the priests went into the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it, and brought out all the debris that they found in the temple of the Lord to the court of the house of the Lord. And the Levites took it out and carried it to the Brook Kidron.
1 John 1:8-9
1 John 1:8-9 NKJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Isaiah 59:1-2 NKJV
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
Commitment to PRAYER
2 Chronicles 32:24
2 Chronicles 32:24 NKJV
In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death, and he prayed to the Lord; and He spoke to him and gave him a sign.
